About Me

Here goes…

I was lead organiser of Plymouth Twestival 2010. Out of the hundreds of cities that took part, we finished 3rd in the UK and 12th internationally. We managed to raise almost £6,000 for Concern, using social media to organise the event.

At work, it is my job to implement a global social media strategy for an international college. I train Online Country Marketing Managers from Japan, Spain, Italy, Germany and Portugal, so that they can use social media effectively within their own markets. I also support and advise course tutors and marketing staff from America, Australia, Canada and New Zealand so that they are able to use social media to effectively engage with their own students. Running our global accounts and monitoring our brand/listening to our market are other important tasks.

In my previous job, I integrated social media into a large business support organisation, and improved their presence on social platforms. Writing plans, implementing strategy, producing policy, training staff, running sites, controlling accounts and changing habits have all been part of my duties.

I’ve also organised and managed a series of social media events aimed at businesses who are in the very early stages of their social media understanding and implementation. At the time of writing, over 800 businesses have attended these events across Devon, Cornwall and Somerset, with feedback being exceptional.

I helped to organise the Devon Social Media Cafe meets. These occasions allow users of social media to meet up with and chat to other local social media users in a relaxed and friendly environment.

I started the #21days challenge. Many users of social media from across the globe have taken part in the challenge, which is based around trying to create positive change by forming good habits.

I project managed a regional programme for schools which encouraged young people to develop their enterprise skills and consider business as a future career path. Business Adventure allowed students from 14 secondary schools to develop their business ideas and present their work in a high-profile Final Event at the Eden Project.

I have both door-to-door and telesales experience, selling everything from broadband packages to accident insurance to gardening services.

I’ve achieved a Bachelors of Arts Honours Degree in Marketing. To achieve this, I studied at the University of Plymouth, graduating in 2008.

I am not sure whether social media and marketing are passions or obsessions, but I think it’s a good thing anyway!
